Come with us to explore five unforgettable places that have plenty to offer.

Monchique town

Welcome to a quiet and peaceful paradise with remarkable views. A perfect nature holiday destination, the small town of Monchique is rewarded with magnificent hills and beautiful valleys of crystalline rivers and springs. Discover a place where the sound of the water bubbling over the stones can be heard. With a 9.5 ph, the “sacred water” of Monchique is believed to have curative powers. In addition to being the most alkaline water in Portugal, it is also one of the most alkaline in the world. Expect to feel revitalized after drinking it directly from one of the beautiful and wild springs of the region.

What about the flavours of the “Serra de Monchique”? The typical “papas moiras” made with maize flour, beans with meat, and the traditional “assadura” made with grilled pork are a must. A picnic under a tree while birdwatching moorhens and kingfishers is also a top choice for lunch.

Whatever program you prefer, the important is to explore this charming town decorated with white houses and nature as far as the eye can see.

Alte village

Considered by many the most typical village of the Algarve, Alte marvels all those who visit it.

Nestled in the foothills of the Serra do Caldeirão, Alte is famous for its natural spring waters, where you can indulge in relaxing and rejuvenating moments while diving or simply floating under the shade of the trees to the sound of the birds. The fluvial beach of Alte, known as the “Fonte Grande”, is a hidden secret well worth discovering!

With whitewashed houses, windows, and façades with colourful borders (not forgetting the decorated chimneys), the streets of this historical centre are filled up with charm and tranquility. Coming to this place that dates back to Roman times is feeling connected to the real Algarve.

Resting and getting lost in a book are nice options in this place that has inspired poets such as Cândido Guerreiro. Don't be surprised if you also feel like writing your own poem after visiting it!

Ria Formosa islands

Imagine yourself on a desert island with warm and calm waters tickling your feet, being greeted by colourful birds, and feeling nature inside you. If imagining feels difficult, there are (at least) 5 islands in the Algarve where you can make this vision come true!

Serving as a transitional area between land and sea, Ria Formosa Nature Park stretches for 60 km along the coast of the eastern Algarve. It is the most important wetland zone in southern Portugal, featuring a wide variety of habitats (barrier islands, sandbanks, dunes, etc.), fauna and flora species.

Ferry boats ride fairly regularly and take visitors to the remote barrier islands of Fuseta, Culatra, Armona, Farol, and Deserta (Barreta). Bring a hat, a bottle of water and a sunscreen, get your camera ready, and make the most of these islands

Praia do Barril in Tavira

Soft and white sand is what your feet will find once you arrive at Barril Beach (Praia do Barril) in Tavira. But before, you have to cross the bridge and take an 8 minute journey on a train, or a 15-20 minutes walk. Children (and adults!) usually love the train ride, as it goes through the natural park of Ria Formosa, allowing everyone to admire wildlife and vegetation along the way. “Perpétua-das-areias”, a small flower we can find here, also makes this ride special, as it leaves a refreshing fragrance in the air.

When you arrive at the beach, you will find calm and transparent waters that invite you to forget everything and focus on relaxation only. Apart from the fresh fish of the beach restaurants, there is another delicacy you have to try here: the famous "bola de Berlim"! In few places, this ball of cream-filled dough will taste as good as it does at Praia do Barril.

Albufeira (by night)

After a long walk through nature and a day laying on golden beaches, you will feel like dancing. At that moment, Albufeira is the right place! During the summer months, it is easy to find sunset parties, bars with live music, Dj’s, and karaoke. Dance, sing and feel the rhythm of Albufeira, the city that never sleeps.

Now that you know which places to visit in your summer holiday in the Algarve, we invite you to embrace a relaxing stay in one of the best golf resorts in Portugal, Amendoeira Golf Resort.
